About Us

Mid Glamorgan Badminton

Welcome to Mid Glamorgan Badminton

So here we are, season 5 (it's a bit like LOST this isn't it) if your a new visitor or a member of the team who has forgotten what has happened in the last four seasons (I'll mention no names) first of all let me welcome you to our site.

We are Mid Glamorgan County Badmionton Association, reformed in early 2007 after approximately 10 years without a competing county team or a structure to facilitate development. We were determined to put that right and by using the tried and tested method of supporting players in their move from club to county to national level.

Currently concentrating on Seniors our plan is to ressurect the Junior team so there is constantly a flow of new blood. Nothing revolutionary there, but something that was not currently being done in our county. Now having enough county members to fill several teams only funding is holding us back.

We entered the English ICC (Inter County Championships) in season 07/08 at division 5 and after matches with Leicester, Worcester, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire we were fortunate to progress to Division 4 through to 1.

To capitalise on this success we sought out various sponsors who could help support the team, being a Not for Profit organisation we are completley self funded and to date have received no finanical support from any public body, inlcuding the WBU, and with the help of local business we were able to get some nice team kit and more training sessions.

After an excellent first season the pressure was on to perform, new challenges came from Avon, Berkshire, Devon and Dorset. The Welsh Tigers did the sponsors proud last year and once again we climbed a rung of the English ICC taking us to division 1.

So here we are, ready for our hardest season yet, a challenger close to home will no doubt go all guns blazing when we take on the might of Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and a return to Barnt Green for a clash with Worcestershire. Rest assured, this will not be an easy season, I anticipate some excellent badminton in store.

We do however have a few tricks of our own awaiting the challengers from both home and away. As they say, it's better to stay silent and be thought a fool than speak and remove all doubt ! So I will divulge no more !
